Professor of Philosophy | Subject Matter Expert | Curriculum Developer
I started reading philosophy when I was in middle school. My brother bought me a pair of philosophy books as a gift. After I read those books, I started buying them for myself from a used bookstore in my neighborhood. I was captivated by the value that philosophers put on meaning and the unique ways they discovered areas of freedom. Through these different philosophical perspectives, the largeness of life and the potential of the world opened up to me. And now, as I reflect on those early lessons, I realize that philosophy also taught me how to think critically, carefully, and systematically. I greatly value the ways that philosophy has enriched my life.
Having become a Professor of Philosophy, I wish to pass along those lessons learned in my youth and the new lessons learned in my research. I endeavor to leave my students not only with a quality education but also a renewed thirst for learning. With undergraduates and doctoral students, it is invigorating to see students of all levels discover the excitement of uncovering unknown intellectual talents and learning new ways of thinking.
SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT & CURRICULUM DEVELOPER
With over ten years of experience, I know education is a good fit for me. I have taught applied and practical ethics, variations of introduction to philosophy covering a wide range of topics and perspectives, and different levels of logic. And in my work as a subject matter expert and curriculum developer, I have found ways to engage students, incorporate diverse real-life examples, involve under-represented perspectives, and increase cross-disciplinary insights.
I’ve been interested in the social and ethical implications of the Internet since focusing on the philosophical study of the Internet in my dissertation. I continue to be an avid researcher of the social, political, and educative implications of information technology, and teaching online helps feed that curiosity as well. It has been interesting to see this form of education blossom over the last decade, and I hope to contribute to its success.
